I just had a chat with a client who's been diagnosed with osteoporosis, and she was considering dropping her exercise routine because of it.

It's a common concern, right?

Many women and their doctors worry about weight training in such cases.

However ...

The scientifically proven truth is that stopping your strength training program is one of the WORST things you can do if you have osterporosis.

You see, your bones get stronger ONLY when your muscles pull on them forcefully (you know, as in lifting weights or jumping).

A study in the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research set out to prove weight training is both safe and effective for women with osteoporosis.

This study was the first to compare strength training with what I like to call, "Real Weight," versus the traditional 3-5 lb "handweights" often recommended by underinformed doctors to peri- and post-menopausal women.

Their conclusion
"[Resistance training] was efficacious and induced no adverse events under highly supervised conditions for our sample of otherwise healthy postmenopausal women with low to very low bone mass."

Translation
Supervised strength training is the best thing to do if you want stronger bones.

If you're looking for a strength training program to improve your bone density, let me know.
