Forbes asked for my thoughts on "weight loss programs for women." Here's what I said: Q) Are there any specific workout plans you would recommend for women who are trying to lose weight? A) I'm assuming you actually mean "brand name" workouts when you say, "specific workout plans." Brand name workouts are designed to sell and entertain. Not necessarily to get results. Marketers know that "New, Different, and Flashy" sells far better than Proven-Yet-Boring. Besides, women, in particular, have been brainwashed into focusing on working "problem" areas. The truth is that a workout plan for weight loss should work your full body and should focus on compound movements. A Calorie is a unit of Mechanical Work. You maximize the amount of Mechanical Work (thus total calories burned) by using: lots of muscles per exercise lots of your larger muscles, and lots of muscle fibers in each muscle with challenging weights. That

In case you didn't catch the Facebook post by Personal Trainer for Women over 50 in Timonium ... I was just named to the lists of "America's Top Personal Trainers" and "America's Top Fitness Professionals" for 2023. But there's more ... Guess what I may soon have in common with these household names: - Richard Simmons - Jack LaLanne - Arnold Schwarzenegger - Jane Fonda - Charles Atlas - Dr. Kenneth Cooper I'm currently on the short list for the 2024 Induction Class for the National Fitness Hall of Fame! (You have to be at least 60 years old with 30 years of experience in the industry, so, fortunately for me 😉, the field is much smaller than you might expect. Insiders tell me I have a decent shot - which feels CRAZY, huh?) Wish me luck. from GMB Posts For Location "29 Again Custom Fitness" https://ift.tt/Hyg0ljQ

I just had a chat with a client who's been diagnosed with osteoporosis, and she was considering dropping her exercise routine because of it. It's a common concern, right? Many women and their doctors worry about weight training in such cases. However ... The scientifically proven truth is that stopping your strength training program is one of the WORST things you can do if you have osterporosis. You see, your bones get stronger ONLY when your muscles pull on them forcefully (you know, as in lifting weights or jumping). A study in the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research set out to prove weight training is both safe and effective for women with osteoporosis. This study was the first to compare strength training with what I like to call, "Real Weight," versus the traditional 3-5 lb "handweights" often recommended by underinformed doctors to peri- and post-menopausal women. Their conclusion "[Resistance training] was efficacious and in

Are nuts really a good source of protein? Well - kinda. Remember these important facts about protein: 1) Your protein needs increase as you get older because you become less efficient at processing protein. 2) For optimal results (fat burning, muscle recovery, etc.), you should get at least 30 grams of protein in each meal. (The older are, the closer your goal should be to 40 grams.) 3) Yes, the "burst" of 30-40 grams at a time makes a significant difference versus spreading out your protein intake. Let's look at the amount of protein in various nuts (and fake* nuts) per recommended serving: Peanuts - 9.5 grams Almonds - 7 grams Pistachios - 6 grams Hazelnuts - 5 grams Cashews - 5 grams Brazil nuts - 4.75 grams Walnuts - 4.5 grams (*Did you know four of the "nuts" above are not truly nuts?) Peanut butter (2 tbsp) - 9 grams Almond butter (2 tbps) - 7 grams So, yes, a decent amount of protein. But compare that to: Chicken (3 oz serving) - 28
